　　Type introduction and model selection of urinary catheter

　　The material of the catheter is latex, rubber, plastic or silicone.

　　Latex, rubber and plastic catheter

　　It is applicable to the short-term detainee. It needs to be replaced once every one to two weeks. Because the material is hard and easy to harden, it is easy to cause discomfort when detaining. The advantage is that the cost is low.

　　Silicone catheter

　　It is suitable for long-term retention. It is replaced once a month. The material is soft and not easy to deteriorate. The discomfort will be low, but the price will be high.

　　After the catheter is placed in the bladder, urine can flow out; After confirming the correct position, inject about 10cc of water / gas into the water ball injection place near the head end of the catheter. The main purpose of this step is to fix the catheter to keep it in the bladder and not easy to get out. The opening where urine flows out needs to be connected with a urine collection bag. When there is urine in the bladder, urine will be drained into the urine collection bag.

　　Correct opening method of catheter care at home

　　1. Preparation of articles: soap or easy to clean shower gel, washing pot (with warm water), water basin, bedpan or diaper / watch pad, towel, cotton swabs and cotton swabs, advantages / physiological salt water (prepared as required), 3M cloth glue.

　　2. When cleaning, wash your hands with cleaning liquid and wear cleaning gloves.

　　3. Put the patient's pants back below the knee. If the room temperature is comfortable, take off the lower body pants first, place the hips in the center of the diaper / nursing pad, and place the bedpan under the hips and above the diaper / nursing pad.

　　4. Observe whether there is abnormal secretion or peculiar smell at the urethral orifice.

　　5. First flush the perineum and urethral orifice with a rinsing pot, apply soap / shower gel to the urethral orifice and the place where the urinary tube is close to the urethral orifice, and then rinse with clean water.

　　6. Use your fingers to separate and retract the foreskin (male) / labia (female), then wet the medium-sized cotton stick with physiological salt water or Youdian (if there is infection), clean the catheter near the mouth of the catheter (about 2.5 cm), use one cotton stick each time, remember not to wipe it back and forth, so that it needs to be discarded after use.

　　7. After removing the bedpan, wipe it dry with a towel, and keep the urethral orifice clean and dry.

　　8. remove the original fixed adhesive tape. If there is residual glue on the skin, gently remove it. Do not scrub vigorously to cause skin damage.

　　9. Use breathable adhesive tape to fix the catheter on the lower abdomen (male) / inner thigh (female) with "well pasted" method. The adhesive part shall be replaced every day to prevent skin damage caused by long-term adhesion or catheter compression. The tape mouth can be folded back a small angle to facilitate easy removal during the next cleaning

　　10. The interface between the catheter and the urine collection bag shall be wrapped with gauze to avoid pressing the skin.

　　11. Pay attention to whether the pipeline is unblocked to avoid folding or pressing the urinary catheter.

　　In case of any of the following conditions in home nursing, seek medical attention immediately:

　　There was no urine outflow from the catheter and the bladder was full;

　　Hematuria or turbidity, sediment, secretion or peculiar smell;

　　The catheter slides out and cannot urinate by itself;

　　Urethral orifice is red and swollen, or there is fever.

　　In order to avoid infection and obstruction of urinary catheter, the family can encourage the patient to take at least 2000~2500 ㏄ of drinking water per day and record the amount of urine excretion, at least 1500cc per day.
